My name is Jan Preston and I am employed as a Home School Family Worker to support Parents/Carers and young people across the three schools, John Ray Infant School, John Ray Junior School and Notley High School. I have been in post for 10 years and have got to know a lot of families and the community in this time.
I am based in one of the demountable classrooms on the Junior School playground. I work from Monday to Thursday and can arrange home visits to support families and can meet in John Ray Infant School and the Junior School with parents. I liaise with school and other agencies when required and can signpost parents/carers to other agencies that may be more beneficial to them than the support that I can offer.
My work centres around promoting good home school links and I am trained in behaviour management and am a facilitator in Step by Step which is a positive parenting programme and STOP which is a parenting programme for parents who have teenagers.
My direct line is 01376 332193 and there is an answerphone facility which is confidential. I would recommend that parents/carers leave a short message and then I will respond to the call if I am away from the office.
At the Junior School in the demountable classroom I run a Tea and Chat on a Tuesday between 8.45 – 19.30 am where parents can have a relaxing drink and chat. I am there to support parents/carers and have lots of information on what is happening in the community. I also have a lot of recycled John Ray Junior School uniform which is in good condition.
On Thursday between 8.45 and 9.30 am I am in the Infant School and hold a drop in for parents.
I run workshops from time to time for parents/carers to explore positive parenting and the feedback from parents has been positive.
